Concept art - character, environments and props

Brief

A concept was made during workshops in Fenomenarium (art school Poland) with Bozena Chadzynska. Our main goal was to produce concepts for character, location, and object connected by three phrases chosen randomly.

World without light

I was very focused on world-building and analysing what would happen if people would have to leave without access to the light. Of course, it would be impossible because of plant growth and not enough oxygen but for simplification, I assumed that plants somehow evolved. I choose a world similar to medieval times and based on that I was thinking that people who lost access to light will try to seek help in religion. My concept was focused on a catholic vision of religion and you can find many cultural elements associated with this faith.

Where is the light?

My first thought after getting to know my theme was the bioluminescence of the mushrooms. They were able to produce light with limited resources and they are quite easy to grow. To make the efficient light source I decided to make them huge.

Who will be the farmer?

We weren't limited on how we wanted to interpret the phrases so I went far away with the regular farmer concept. I connected him to the religion and theme of nuns who were taking care of the herbs and medicine. Nuns were fitting perfectly, in the religious community they were very respected and They had knowledge of how to take care of the most important resource in the universe. To add a twist and dark theme I decided that the women with the biggest faith after dying were resurrected by the organ of some saint.
